One of my favorite parts about blogging is sharing favorite things, and finds with readers. So, I figured with the start of my new site and blog, I’d start a regular segment for just that…and I thought I’d name it after two of my most favorite things: Chocolate & Cheese! Wine should maybe be on there too. After all I did create a printable Chocolate and Wine Tasting invitation…because I so love the idea of a bridal shower, bachelorette party, or just a gathering of friends around those two lovely things.
While it may bear that name, the segment won’t always be one of those two things…but today it is! Valentine’s Day is here and in honor of this sweet holiday here are a few fantastic chocolatiers and candy makers to make your heart swoon!
Forget Love, I’d rather fall in Chocolate
First up is local favorite Lune Chocolat. Located not far from Syracuse, in the town of Manlius, these chocolates are so pretty and unique, they’re sure to impress any lucky recipient. For the brides and grooms reading, these would also make sweet wedding favors. The Chai Buddah which is 60% dark chocolate with organic chai infused ganache is my personal favorite!
Chocolate with a heart
My sister gifted my husband Pete with chocolates from Philadelphia’s John & Kira’s one Christmas, and I was as impressed with the company’s philanthropic efforts as I was with their chocolate (because I even though it was my Pete’s gift…I still managed to eat a lot of it). John & Kira’s supplies plants to urban initiatives and public schools, so that they may start gardens growing mint, rosemary, and more. The company then buys what is harvested, and gives 5% of all sales from their yummy Urban Garden Bars back to the gardens.
Sponge Candy? A Buffalo, New York favorite
Alethea’s Chocolates in Williamsville, New York is one of my husband’s favorites because they make a special Western New York’ treat that he loves called Sponge Candy! Handmade with Alethea’s finest milk and dark chocolate, this candy has a uniquely textured inside unlike any other candy I’ve ever had before. If your Valentine is from Buffalo, sponge candy might be the perfect way to their heart.
This post would not be complete without a shout out to one of my favorite etsy shops (whose owner also happens to hail from Central New York), Nicole’s Treats. For the past two years, Pete has surprised me with her amazing Chocolate Covered Strawberry Licorice. These are no joke people. They are GOOD. I hide them from my children. I hoard them in the hope that I can make a dozen last more than a week. It doesn’t usually work.
I’ll sign off this Valentine’s Day with the words of Charles Schulz, “All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.”
